German "Bild" newspaper reacts to Schroeder's visit to Turkish media in Frankfurt; government blasts Bild for "ridiculous" story

German Prime Minister Gerhard Schroeder's recent visit to the Frankfurt offices of the Turkish Dogan Media Group have elicited a strong response in the German press. Government spokesperson Bela Anda characterized the front page story in the German Bild newspaper, which carried a picture of PM Schroeder in front of a Turkish flag, with the legend "Are the Turks going to determine the election?", as "ridiculous". Spokeperson Anda also reserved criticism for the official CDU/CSU line that "Schroeder's support of Turkish EU membership is not in the interests of Germany." Â
