Forest fires in Selcuk and Kusadasi under control

We have succeeded in taking under control the forest fires in Selcuk town of Izmir and Kusadasi town of the neighboring city of Aydin," Turkish Environment & Forestry Minister Osman Pepe announced on Monday.

Pepe said, "Unfortunately, the fires destroyed 250-300 hectares of woodland. Our efforts will start in the coming weeks to afforest the area again."
Earlier, hundreds of foreign tourists visiting the house of Virgin Mary in Selcuk town of Izmir, were evacuated from the area.
