Former Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz's charged with "causing corruption in Turk Bank" will begin his trial today at the Supreme Court. This is a pivotal day in Turkish political history . For the first time in the history of the Turkish Republic, a prime minister will be tried at the Supreme Court.
Former Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz will be appearing in person before the Supreme Court today. When asked to comment on the trial Mesut Yilmaz said, "Send me to the Supreme Court; I would like to be acquitted."
In connection to the Yilmaz former State Minister Gunes Taner is also being tried at the Supreme Court.
