At least 10 people were killed and more than 50 injured on Wednesday when a Turkish Airlines plane crashed while attempting to land at an airport near Amsterdam.

Here are the 10 main previous air crashes in Europe over the past three years.Â

-- 2006 --

- Jan 19: HUNGARY - Forty-two Slovakians are killed when an Antonov 24 military plane crashes near to the north eastern Hungarian town of Telkibanya. The crash is blamed by the Budapest authorities on a navigational error. The aircraft, which was heading for the eastern Slovakian town of Kosice with 28 soldiers from NATO’s multinational force in Kosovo on board, ploughed into a snow-clad mountain in the Tatra range.

- May 3: RUSSIA - An Airbus A320 belonging to Armenia’s Armavia, flying between Yerevan and Sochi in southern Russia, plunges into the Black Sea killing 113 people.

- July 9: RUSSIA - One hundred and twenty five people are killed when an Airbus A310 belonging to the Siberian company S7 veers off the runway when landing at Irkutsk, in Siberia, before banging into a wall and bursting into flames with some 200 people aboard.

- Aug 22: UKRAINE - A Tupolev Tu-154 of the Russian airline Pulkovo crashes in eastern Ukraine, near to the village of Sulkha Balka, killing 170 people.

- March 17: RUSSIA - Seven people are killed and 50 injured when a Tupolev Tu-134 belonging to a Russian domestic carrier makes an emergency landing at Samara, in the Volga region, 1,100 kilometers (683 miles) to the east of Moscow.

- Nov 30: TURKEY - A McDonnell Douglas-83, belonging to Turkish low-cost carrier Atlasjet, crashes near to Cukuroren, in a mountainous region in the south west of Turkey killing all 57 passengers and crew members.

-- 2008 --

- Jan 23: POLAND - A Polish EADS Casa military transport plane crashes in bad weather near to the landing strip at the airport of Miroslawiec in the north-west of the country. Sixteen passengers and four crew members all die in the accident.

- Aug 20: SPAIN - One hundred and fifty four people die when a McDonnell Douglas-82, belonging to Spanish air company Spanair, crashes during its take off at Madrid airport. The plane was heading for Las Palmas, in Spain’s Canary Islands. It is Spain’s worst air accident for 25 years.

- Sept 14: RUSSIA - Eighty-eight people, including around 20 foreigners, are killed when an Aeroflot Boeing-737 from Moscow crashes near to the Russian town of Perm in the Ural Mountains.

- Nov 27: FRANCE - An Airbus A320 from Air New Zealand crashes during a test flight as it approaches the southern French town of Perpignan, plunging into the Mediterranean Sea. Seven are killed including five New Zealanders and two German pilots.
