Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said that no step would be taken regarding the dispatch of Turkish troops to Iraq, as long as security was not provided. Erdogan said that Turkish troops would not go to Iraq as a gendarme force and that, “It is unacceptable to react to troops, that will go for providing peace and happiness.”

Erdogan said, “Some tribes in Iraq view the desire of Turkey to help Iraqis for their prosperity and felicity, as something negative, and others view it positive. Talks are under way at the moment. We will go there just to facilitate peace and enable Iraq to integrate with the rest of the world.

“There is no water or electricity in Iraq at the moment. The infrastructure had decayed. Turkey will undertake active responsibilities in these areas. Thousands of TIRs are carrying food to Iraq everyday. Turkey is the main channel of this effort.”
