Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said that freezing the 8.5-billion-dollar loan from U.S. to Turkey was out of question and that, “If it is extended in the way we like, then we will accept it.”

Ahead of his visit to Krygisistan, Erdogan said, “Postponing the loan is out of question. According to the present scheme, the first installment of the loan should be released until the end of this month. If it is released, we will welcome it.”

Upon a question that whether Turkey would accept the condition of not sending troops to Northern Iraq so as to get the loan, Erdogan said, “What this Northern Iraq condition means have always been discussed. You know that this issue was not determined by us and anything in this way is out of question.”

On the same issue, ahead of his visit to Greece, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said, “As to the loan, there is no problem. Any way, the Turkish economy is not in need of that loan. Moreover it has nothing to do with the issue of sending troops to Iraq.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener said that that the first tranche of the loan will be utilized at the end of this month. He said “Rumors that the loan is frozen, are not true. The relevant procedures for the loan are concluded.”
