Czech and Swedish PMs voice hope on EU future for Turkey

Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Jiri Paroubek, and Swedish Prime Minister Goran Persson have both said that they believe the general public in their countries will turn in favor of a future Turkish membership in the EU. At a press conference during an official visit to Sweden by PM Paroubek, the two prime ministers spoke positively about the start up of accession talks between Turkey and the EU. Paroubek stressed that he thought it was very possible that European public opinion to change to be in favor of Turkey. Swedish PM Persson told reporters that public opinion on its own should not be a deciding factor in EU moves, saying "If the EU based its every decision on public opinion polls, it would never be able to do anything."
