The much-awaited score results for the Student Selection Exam (OSS), a nationwide test that determines whether high school students will get into the university they want, or be able to enter university at all, were revealed today in Turkey.

The 1,641,000 test-takers eagerly awaited news of their results today, and while the top scores emerged from students in Istanbul and Izmir, a surprising 47,000 students who sat for the exam apparently received scores of "0" on the test. Most of the students who received zeros were noted by an official from the Higher Board of Education to be students who realized they wouldn't be able to pass the exam, and left most of the answers blank. The number of students who received zero this year was noticeably higher than last year, when it was around 25,000, although those doing well on the OSS this year actually obtained higher scores than the 2006 exam sitters.
