The Governor of Trabzon province both criticized and praised the people of Trabzon for their love of arms on Friday: “The PKK stays out of this region, and one reasons for this is the people’s love of guns.” The governor added that, “Although these people live in rural areas, they are all armed. Anyone who wishes is issued with a licence. One should not be afraid of registered arms; it is easy to pursue the identity of the shooter by taking a ballistic example. The crime-rate with these guns is around 3%.”

If the State fails to give penalties

“The court released a car-thief caught by the gendarmes of Akçaabat. There is such a notion as the establishing of justice. If the State fails to punish criminals, then the citizen takes it upon him/herself to do so. This is potentially extremely dangerous.”

They use children

“Incidents are occurring more often in Trabzon; but there is a general increase of crime-rates throughout Turkey. It has become more difficult to arrest people under the age of 17 with recent legislations. Criminal organisations have as a result, begun to use children as tools for their crimes.”
