The Central Bank has announced that it will not raise short term interest rates at this time, not having seen important changes in mid-level inflation rates since its last meeting on June 7. Central Bank authorities did however stress that its monetary policies could alter in the event of noteably negative trends in mid term inflation levels.

6 members of the Central Bank's Money Policy Board (PPK) met yesterday, including Erdem Basci, Burhan Goklemez, Guven Sak, Ibrahim Turhan, and Mehmet Yorukoglu.

The PPK board, in a departure from previous announcements about inflation which referred only to "coming months," clarified yesterday that inflation could continue to rise in "June and July." The Central Bank monetary policy board also noted though that with the start of 2007, it was estimating that inflation rates would drop, and thus that interest rates would also go down.
