British Ambassador Westmacott: Turkey could be EU member in 10 years

England's envoy to Ankara, Ambassador Peter Westmacott, has said that he thinks the EU accession process will be a difficult one for Turkey, but that "Within 10 years, Turkey will achieve full membership." Speaking at a conference on the EU and Turkey at Thrace University, Ambassador Westmacott also reminded listeners that the EU would first have to accustom itself to the idea of Turkey:
"The accession talks will be incredibly difficult. Within 10 years, Turkey will achieve full membership, however during this time, other EU countries will have to get used to Turkey."
