AVEA to carry latest earthquake developments

Head of Bosphorus University's Observatory in Kandilli and of the Earthquake Engineering discipline of the Earthquake Research Institute, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Erdik, said that in the event of an earthquake, "The Istanbul Earthquake Emergency Intervention System" will create a "map" of the earthquake and the distribution of damage to the city within five minutes.

Erdik pointed out that special ground movement stations had been placed in 100 residential, industrial and business areas around Istanbul as part of the system, which includes 40 earthquake recording networks in different buildings around the city.

Information Processing Services and Project Planning Director for AVEA mobile telephone network, Veli Murat Çelik, stated that special GSM modules had been installed in the earthquake recording equipment, sending information in the form of short text messages to the AVEA network, where it would be processed and forwarded to the Kandilli Observatory.
