Alanya locals starting to take siesta breaks

ALANYA - The Municipal Council of Alanya recently instituted a citywide summer siesta from 1-3 p.m. until Sept. 30. The suggestion came from Mayor Hasan Sipahioğlu, who said it is a necessity around noon, when the heat is the worst.
Sipahioğlu added that tourists do not shop between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and that a siesta would be beneficial for the personnel working at tourism faculties.
Some members of the council agreed with the mayor, nothing that the mentioned personnel generally work from 9 a.m. to midnight, while others said that thought they agree with the necessity of a siesta, its practice would be difficult.
But the vote was taken, the siesta application was approved unanimously. According to the rule of Municipal Council of Alanya, tourism facilities will have a break everyday between 1-3 p.m.
The siesta breaks will continue until Sept. 30.
The council’s decision was approved by Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, or ALTSO. A spokesman for the chamber said they were in favor of siestas in order to boost efficiency during hot summer days.
