Agreement On YOK Motion Was Attained

Education Minister Huseyin Celik said that an agreement was reached between the government and the university rectors, to prepare a framework motion on higher education, without including the 130th and 131st articles of the Constitution.Following the 3.5-hour-meeting between Education Ministry and Inter-University Board Officials, Education Minister Huseyin Celik said that they reached an agreement. Celik stressed that the 130th and 131st articles of the Constitution should also be amended so as to realize a radical reform in the higher education system. He said, “However because of various reasons and since we thought that a Constitutional amendment should be based on social consensus, for the time being, we decided to prepare a framework motion to eliminate the difficulties faced by universities in the short and medium term at least. In this respect we have reached an agreement with the Inter-University Board on the content of this framework motion.”Celik said that after the motion was prepared on the basis of the recommendations of the Inter-University Board, it would be forwarded to Parliament, where it would be adopted.�
