Turkish Railways (TCDD) General Directorate told the Anatolian Agency, the cargo train heading from ankara to the eastern province of Malatya collided with 4 Eylul Mavi Train at 6:20 a.m. (GMT 04:20) after the cargo train violated red signal. Those injured were immediately hospitalized. The collision near the town, about 400 kilometers (250 miles) east of ankara, was at relatively low speed, the freight train traveling at around 20 kph.Â

Train accidents are not uncommon on Turkeys ageing and often poorly maintained rail network. Nine people were killed when a passenger train derailed in western Turkey last month, and in July 2004, 37 people were killed when a newly-inaugurated high-speed train derailed in Turkeys northwest. Another eight died the following month when two trains crashed head-on in the same region.  Â
