According to the mother of Murat Kurnaz, 23, who has been held prisoner by the U.S. since 2002 on charges of suspected al-Qaeda links, her son may have been brought to Turkey. Kurnaz was arrested while traveling in Pakistan and sent to Guantanamo Bay, where he has served over two-years in prison, held without charge.

"We do not have definite information yet, but my son Murat might have been brought to Turkey," Rabia Kurnaz told Anatolia news agency speaking from the city of Adapazari, Sunday.

Rabia Kurnaz claims that Turkish officials informed her that a Turk was flown from Guantanamo to the Incirlik military base in Southern Turkey on a U.S. plane Saturday.

Kurnaz's lawyer said last October that he was working towards the release of his client on the grounds that there was not enough evidence. "There was no evidence that he ever fought or possessed weapons. He hasn't ever been to Afghanistan."

Police officials in Adana told the Anatolia news agency that they knew a Turk was being flown to Turkey but that no one had been handed over yet.
