Emerging from a government cabinet minister meeting which dealt with, among other topics, Sunday's PKK ambush that resulted in the deaths of 13 Turkish soldiers, Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek commented yesterday that "For the benefit of the state and the people of the nation, we are discussing and will continue to discuss every possible event which could occur."

Cicek took time to touch on the much-debated question of whether or not Turkish troops will be given permission to engage in "hot pursuit" of PKK forces over the northern Iraqi border, noting "Sometimes it is presented as an optimistic solution to the people, the idea that one certain precaution might bring everything to an end."
Yesterday, President Abdullah Gul called an urgent summit on terror, calling to Cankaya both General Yasar Buyukanit of the Turkish Armed Forces and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Today in Ankara, the High Board of Struggle Against Terror will be meeting under the direction of PM Erdogan, with General Buyukanit also expected to attend this meeting. Whether or not the specific question of Turkish troop pursuit of PKK forces over the northern Iraqi border is to be discussed today is still not clear.
