BEIRUT, Lebanon – Former prime minister, Rafik Hariri was killed in a horrific bomb blast that tore through the streets of downtown Beirut, lunchtime Monday, sending panic throughout the city. The bomb blast, which left a 30ft crater in the street, burning cars and complete devastation, contained approximately 650 pounds of TNT explosives. One hundred people were wounded and 10 killed.
Cabinet officials have called an emergency session; security forces are back from vacation early to ensure security on the streets of Beirut.
The blast, which shook the city, brought back painful memories of the not so long ago violent civil war. This horrific act has caused great unrest in the city sending Hariri’s supporters onto the streets shouting anti-Syrian slogans.
