In a surprise speech, Prime Minister Erdoğan said that doctors were going to be brought from abroad to work in Turkey. This is what the Prime Minister said at congresses held in Orhangazi and Gemlik districts of Bursa:

“Private hospitals, as well as Foundation Trust hospitals are becoming saturated, with pensioners also headed their way. They are earning money, and we are being relieved of the duty of investing increasing amounts of money.

“We are now taking steps to set up ‘health towns’ across the country, starting with the major cities. We will not be making the investment for these towns as a State. We will locate international investors and provide them with the land to build hospitals.

“As it stands, it is difficult to employ a doctor of foreign nationality here. We should be able to employ doctors of foreign origin in this country. This is what we are currently working towards… …Many citizens travel abroad to be treated by foreign doctors. The doctors should come here, instead of the patients travelling to them. What I mean is that we should provide that service for the people.”

“Once we achieve general health insurance, every person who is born will be insured until the age of 18, regardless of whether or not their father is insured. We hope to overcome difficulties in doing this.”
