Foreign Secretary Jack Straw’s visit to Mehmet Ali Talat, President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, has infuriated Cypriot Greek leader Papadopulos who, it was revealed, sent a secret letter to foreign countries’ representatives, forbidding them to hold meetings in buildings carrying the name Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). It was revealed that Greek Cypriot leader Tasos Papadopulos sent a secret document to foreign Ambassadors and put in place a ‘ban on visiting’ Mehmet Ali Talat, President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

It was said that Papadopulos wrote in his official memorandum, “We do not want foreigners coming to the island to visit offices of Presidency or other ministries carrying the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus sign”.
