A social sciences teacher at Kayışdağı Arifpaşa primary school claims he was transferred to another school 63km away and had his salary cut in half following an investigation into claims that he called the ezan, or call to prayer, an example of noise pollution.

During a lesson, Levent Kaynarcalı, who has been a teacher for 12 years, allegedly told students that the call to prayer ringing out from a nearby mosque at the time was a form of noise pollution, and continued the lesson.
After learning about the incident, the school’s head teacher, Haluk Karabulut, called for an inquiry and had Kaynarcalı interviewed by two investigators.

Kaynarcalı has claimed that he was only complaining about the mosque's broken speakers, not the call to prayer.
