Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul left for a two day trip through the Balkans, noting "We have finished our EU trips, now we are all going together to the Balkans. But now planes carry us to the places that our ancestors used horses to get to." Gul was greeted in Kosovo's capitol Pristina, the first stop of his Balkan tour, by Turkish students carrying posters reading "Welcome to Gul of Europe." Gul passed out carnations to the students.

After Pristina, Gul traveled yesterday to Mamusha, Kosovo's only Serbian village, where he was met by a warm audience carrying signs, one of which said "Turkey is number one. Mamusha is proud of you."
