"History is being written with the recently announced election results in Iraq, the country is entering a new phase searching for it's middle-eastern democratic political identity. The recent announcement of election results in Iraq brings the country into it's third stage. The first stage of development and change started back in 1991 with the first Gulf War, this was followed by the second which was the American intervention, and now the country is entering it's third period with the search for it's "newly reformed political faith"."In the days, weeks and months to follow, Iraq will be the scene of fierce alliance searches and power struggles within domestic politics." "Election results show that the Iraq United Alliance constituted by the Shiites received a majority vote of 48 percent. However, this is no where near close enough to the "two-third majority vote" needed to determine the President and the 275-member National Assembly. The second biggest group to win at the Iraqi Temporary Parliament with 26 percent of the votes was the Kurds." "Something like this has never been seen before in the history of Iraq. The Shiites and Kurds are becoming the majority, demonstrating a new psychology that is sweeping the country. This new psychology will create difficulty for a period when reconciliation between all fractions of Iraq and it's neighbors is needed the most." "The list of candidates being formed by Prime Minister Allavi to fill government positions shows that the secular Shiite candidates are ahead of Sunnis and Turkomans." "Allavi has already met with Kurdish leaders in Northern Iraq a few days ago and started his search for the allies needed to bring unity to the country. However, this is not an easy job and one that will take masses amounts of diplomacy and compromise." "During this process we will see more intervention between Iraq's neighbors and the world, not solely the U.S. For all these reasons mentioned, the third stage of development and change is truly the most critical process and period in Iraq."
