A Turkish woman was killed on Thursday after stepping on a landmine planted by the separatist PKK in a rural area of Semdinli town in the southeastern province of Hakkari, the Anatolian Agency reported.

The woman had ventured into the mountainous area to gather wild plants, they added.

The PKK frequently plants landmines targeting Turkish Security Forces in southeast Turkey, where the military is conducting extensive land and air operations against them.

Turkey and most of the international community, including the EU and the U.S., consider the PKK a terrorist organization.
