Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan acknowledged the request made by the European Council (EC) to remove compulsory religious education from schools and religious preference from identity cards, as he boarded a plane at Esenboga airport today.

Reporters quizzed the Premier on the report as he was leaving for a three day visit to Albania and Bosnia.

"Of course, now this is a report. This report will be evaluated and examined by us. Thereafter, we will decide what we think of as Turkey and what kind of a practice we will apply as the cabinet. After this decision, we will take the issue to parliament if necessary," said the Premier in reply to the question of how he felt about the EC report.
