Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan did most of his heavy last minute bargaining on the controversial framework document for the EU accession talks from his AKP headquarters in Ankara. Leaving an AKP meeting at a hotel in Kizilcahamam, PM Erdogan returned to Ankara early, heading straight for the AKP General Headquarters there, where he met with ministers and party leaders. From AKP headquarters, PM Erdogan also called on staff from the Foreign Ministry and advisors to meet him there.

The meeting between PM Erdogan and his cabinet ministers lasted for 3.5 hours yesterday, during which time the PM reportedly spoke with both German Prime Minister Gerhard Schroeder and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. In the evening, PM Erdogan received British Ambassador to Ankara Peter Westmacott at the AKP headquarters.
With developments changing on a minute to minute basis in Ankara, PM Erdogan was reportedly uncomfortable with early eports coming from some Turkish news channels that FM Gul woudl be definitely leaving for Luxembourg in the evening. Prime Ministerial spokesperson Akif Beki spoke to the press, saying that the reports were not true, and that no decision had been come to yet at that time.
