Strong earthquake strikes off Greek island of Crete
ISTANBUL - A 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred off the Mediterranean island of Crete on Wednesday, Dogan News Agency said, citing the Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory. No injuries or damage were reported. (UPDATED)

The Athens Geodynamic Institute reported the undersea quake, which occurred at 12:30 p.m. (0930 GMT) some 280 miles (450 kilometers) southeast of the Greek capital, as being of magnitude 5.9, while the U.S. Geological Survey put this number at 6.7.

Greece is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world.
