At a meeting with Turkish Defense Minister Vacdi Gonul, Livni "expressed her discontent over the visit by the Iranian president to Turkey", her office said in a statement.Â
Ahmadinejad paid a working visit to Turkey in August, in which the international row over Iran's nuclear program topped the agenda.Â
"We must continue to strengthen international pressure against Iran and its president," Livni, who hopes to become prime minister after snap elections scheduled for February, was quoted as saying by AFP.
She urged the Turkish government to "act more firmly to isolate Iran on the international stage" and reiterated that measures adopted by the U.N. Security Council aimed at forcing Tehran to halt its uranium enrichment activity "are not enough".
Since May, Turkey has been acting as mediator in indirect talks between Israel and its arch-foe Syria. It also has taken some kind of a role in Iran's nuclear row with the West.Â
Israel considers Iran its main strategic threat because of Tehran's accelerating nuclear enrichment program, which Israel and the West believe is aimed at developing nuclear weapons.Â
Iran insists its nuclear program is entirely peaceful.Â
Israel is widely considered the sole nuclear-armed state in the Middle East, although it has never officially confirmed nor denied having such weapons.
