18,000 stranded in Norwegian airport strike
Some 18,000 air passengers were stranded in Norway on Monday after their flights were cancelled on the fourth day of a strike at six airports, Norwegian airport operator Avinor said.

Some 220 employees walked off the job on Friday at five regional airports, including Norways second largest city of Bergen, after wage negotiations broke down between Avinor and the main trade union confederation LO.

During the weekend, the strike was extended to a sixth airport.

LO said that unless an agreement was reached the work stoppage would be extended Tuesday to six more airports, including Stavanger, another of Norways biggest cities.

That would leave some 31,000 passengers stranded each day.

"There is currently no contact between the two sides," Avinor spokeswoman Torunn Sneltvedt told AFP, excluding a quick end to the conflict. Air traffic at Oslos international airport was only marginally affected by the strike.
