Sweden’s EU term presidency
On Wednesday Sweden took over the helmet for the European Union term presidency. Sweden will face a quite difficult term. Even preparations for the decision about Turkey to be taken at the end of the year are enough to be handled in a six-month term presidency.

The unclosed Iran dossier and us
The "Iran dossier" is not closed. Protests shaking the fundamentals of the oppression regime are on hold, for now. The Iranian Constitutional Court, half of its 12 members were appointed by Ayatollah Khamenei, ruled the recount of 10 percent of total votes cast. And the June 12 election results were approved once again. The case is closed but not the "Iran dossier".

A hot ’Turkey Season’ in France
The "Turkey Season" launched following a joint press conference by French and Turkish culture ministers in Paris last Tuesday has made a literally hot start. Both the weather and the atmosphere were extremely hot, and so was the attention French people paid to the event. You may say, "What’s the weather above 30 degrees Celsius in Paris got to do with ’Turkey Season?'"

THE CORRÝDOR : Will Toptan be nominated?
Parliament will convene in early Aug. to select the speaker. Some are seeking the answer to whom the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, will nominate. More than one candidate in the AKP has eyes on the seat... Following the Cabinet change by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoðan, the AKP deputies who are interested in this position are many. Former Justice Minister Mehmet Ali Þahin and former Education Minister Hüseyin Çelik top the list.

Looking over his glasses and directly into my eyes, a bewildered European friend asked why people he believed would have been delighted with the Justice and Development Party, or AKP, dominated Parliament legislating a groundbreaking law allowing civilian courts to prosecute army officials were so angered with the development and why the National Security Council, or MGK, met almost eight hours on the issue. "Is it not good that staging a coup has become more difficult in Turkey? Is it not good that civilian courts now will have the power to prosecute military officers should they plot a coup?"
