Fiat sold 10,032 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the Turkish auto market and gained 19.1 percent market share in April, Fiat brand manager Okan Bas said.

A total of 52,640 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in the market last month.

In the first four months of 2009, Fiat sold 19,781 cars and topped the market with a 13.3 percent share, Bas also said.

Fiat's overall sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles stood at 61,043 in 2008.

Car sales jumped after the Turkish government cut tax rates in automobiles for three months in March, which will end June 15.

Bas also said Fiat predicted that around 375,000 cars would be sold in total in the Turkish market this year before the tax cut. "Now, we estimate it to be 425,000," he added.
