Turkey says PKK responsible for Istanbul blasts

The bomb blasts, 50 meters and 10 minutes apart, were the worst such attacks Turkey since 2003, when al Qaeda carried out a series of bombings in Istanbul. Some 150 people were also injured in last Sunday's blasts.

"Our judgment is that this merciless attack was the work of the bloody separatist group," Interior Minister Besir Atalay told a televised news conference.

In the attacks, first a lighter bomb went off and then the second one blasted when the crowd gathered in the scene of the first blast, a tactic to increase casualties.

The PKK, considered as a terrorist organization by majority of the international community including the European Union and the U.S., are responsible for than 30,000 people's death for decades.
