The suspects were being questioned by Istanbul police. Â

Two bombs exploded minutes apart in a packed Istanbul square Sunday night, killing 17, five of them children, and injuring more than 150 in the deadliest attack against civilians in Turkey in almost five years.

No claim has been made for the blasts that occurred in a crowded Istanbul street, though officials have implicitly blamed the outlawed PKK that has undertaken similar attacks in the past.   Â

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey as well as the most of the international community, including the United States and the European Union.Â

"All of the victims of these attacks were innocent. They intentionally targeted innocent people without discriminating between men and women, the elderly and children. When they see pictures of the children they killed in newspapers, they cannot claim the attacks because of their shame," Turkish President Abdullah Gul, who visited Wednesday the site of the attacks, was quoted by Anatolian Agency as saying.

He also said the damages caused by the attacks would be compensated as soon as possible.
