ANKARA - Hakkari University in the southeastern region of the country is set to become the first university in Turkey to launch a Web site in Kurdish.

The Web site, which will be online in a few weeks time at www.jinakurd.org, aims to inform Kurdish-speaking citizens about "The Kurdish Women's Congress," which the university will host between Sept. 25 and 27.

Prof. İbrahim Belenli, the rector of Hakkari University, said the contents of the Web site had been prepared by people of Kurdish origin and experts in Kurdish. The rector said there would also be a site in Turkish for non-Kurdish speakers at www.kurtkadını.org .

According to the university’s current Web site, the congress is scheduled to continue as a running series. Discussion topics will include the status of Kurdish women in the family and the possible violence they are subjected to.
