Turkey makes int’l labor ’black list’ of ILO
ANKARA - The International Labor Organization has placed Turkey among the 43 countries that are infringing on their agreement with the organization.

The decision came due to Turkey’s infringement of the application of Article 87 and Article 98 of the ILO Constitution. Article 87, Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize Convention, was adopted in 1948 and Article 98, Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining Convention was adopted in 1949.

Turkey might come to the agenda of the Applications Committee of the ILO during the organization’s 98th International Work Conference, which will take place between June 3 and June 19. The ILO Application Committee studies whether signatory states have satisfied their responsibilities according to their agreement with the organization. Whether Turkey will actually be on the Application Committee’s agenda will be clarified once the conference starts. Among other countries that might make the committee’s agenda are Belarus, Colombia, Costa Rica, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Myanmar, Pakistan, Panama, and Paraguay.
