"My party will be called, the Turkey Party, and we will assume a new political style," Sener, who resigned from his post in the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP, last year, told a press conference in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

He labeled the party as “democratic center”, broadcaster CNNTurk reported.

Sener served as state minister and deputy prime minister of Turkey between November 2002 and August 2007, and is also one of the founding members of the AKP.

The establishment of the Turkey Party, or TP, brings the total number of the political parties in the country to 61.

The TP will be represented in Parliament by MP Mehmet Yasar Ozturk, who also resigned last year from the ruling party to join the new political entity, bringing the number of parties represented to seven.
