ANKARA - The main opposition CHP's female candidate won a breathtaking election race for mayor in the western province of Aydin.

Justice and Development Party, or AKP, had changed its mayoral candidate and entered the race, nominating Mustafa Ancin, while the Republican People’s Party, or CHP, nominated female candidate, Ozlem Cercioglu, who comes from a well-known family in the city and whose husband is the head of the Aydin Industry Chamber.

 

Nationalist Movement Party, or MHP, was represented in the election race by Huseyin Aksu.

 

Cercioglu won the race with 26.5 percent of the votes and was followed by AKP's Ancin with 25.1 percent. MHP’s Aksu came in third securing 24.9 percent of the vote.
