Protestor farmer under arrest
ISTANBUL - The farmer who protested Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2006, leading Erdoğan to say, "Take your mum and go away," was arrested yesterday prior to a rally attended by Erdoğan in the southern province of Mersin, reported news site hurriyet.com.tr.

Prior to Erdoğan’s arrival to Mersin yesterday, Mustafa Kemal Öncel’s home in Mezitli district was under police surveillance and later Öncel was arrested. Öncel in 2006 said to Erdoğan, "What will happen to the farmers? Our mothers are crying [A saying in Turkish about one who sufferings so much for a reason]. How can you come here?" Erdoğan replied to the farmer "Take your mom and go away." After that event, many cases were opened against Öncel, including for insulting Erdoğan, of which he was acquitted.

Meanwhile, the Manisa branch of the Justice and Development Party, or AKP, distributed photographs of their party’s rally as an example of a "crowded gathering" in a dispute about the number of participants in rallies with the opposition Nationalist Movement Party, or MHP. However the photographs of the AKP were retouched by Photoshop program to show that the gathering was crowded, reported the hurriyet.com.tr news site.

Hours after the MHP gathering in southern province of Mersin on Friday, the AKP Mersin branch in a press statement said the MHP gathering was not as crowded as the AKP’s gathering a couple days before. However, the photographs that were presented to the press as proof that the crowded AKP gatherings were not showing the reality, the news site wrote.

At the bottom left of the photograph among the crowd similar people are together and people with same clothes and postures were also among the crowd at several places. Mesut Bayram Laçalar, the leader of the MHP province branch said it is a scandal.
