Members of a group with ties to the largely Kurdish-backed parties of DTP, ESP, EHP, SDP, and EMEP yesterday left a black wreath in protest at the American Consulate in Istanbul's Istinye neighborhood. The wreath was specifically protesting the intelligence the US has reportedly shared with Turkish military troops which has led to the recent bombings carried out against PKK terror camps in northern Iraq.

Speaking yesterday, DTP Istanbul MP Halil Aksoy said "Amongst Kurds, one of the lowest things that can be done in society is reporting another person. In Kurdish eyes, the US has become this kind of reporter by giving coordinates for Kurds living in northern Iraq.....The US has issued messages of unity at bayram, but is then having bombs rain down on Kurdish heads."

Also speaking yesterday was DTP Istanbul Deputy head Mehmet Sakar, who said: "Getting support and permission from the US, Turkey has carried out an air campaign which has caused many civilians to lose their lives. The Kurdish problem has been interpreted as being a security problem by the AKP, and the AKP administration, which has up until now allowed every kind of violence to be used in this matter, must move away from this stance."
