The decision by Citigroup to become a 20% partner in the Turkish Akbank was celebrated in New York City last night at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

At a ceremony hosted by the American-Turkish Community, headed by Murat Koprulu, awards were given to Sabanci Holding head Guler Sabanci and Citigroup's CEO, Charles Prince. In a speech at the ceremony, Guler Sabanci said "In every area of life, mix and integration have reached such a level that for anyone to say that they have all the knowledge and ability that it takes to be successful is simply playing with abdurdity." Citigroup bought 20% of Akbank's shares for 3.1 billion dollars.
