Turkish financial markets show first reactions to political turbulence
The first results of the turbulent political and social atmosphere in the wake of weekend demonstrations in Istanbul against the ruling AKP have begun to be seen on the financial markets, with a steep drop on the Turkish stock market, and a rapid increase in the value of the dollar against the YTL.
The very reaction to the current position in Turkey could be seen this morning with the dollar, which opened the week at 1.3900 YTL, 57 kurus higher than closing rates on Friday. Similarly, the Euro opened this morning at I.8950 YTL, 75 kurus higher than closing rates on Friday. All eyes continue to be on the financial markets today, in expectation of whether or not further reactions will emerge to the turbulence in Ankara. hurriyet.com.tr
