The British newspaper, Guardian, has reported that Turkey has begun bombing PKK camps in the Kandil Mountains in Northern Iraq. The report, which notes that the past few weeks have seen a tremendous troop and tank build-up along the borders with Northern Iraq by both Turkey and Iran, says that the attacks on Kandil Mountain appear to be "coordinated."

The report also notes that Iran bombing contingencies in particular have been aiming at PKK camps in the Kandil range over the past four days, and that at least 6 villages in the area have been completely emptied of residents. Local resident Abdul Latif Muhammed is quoted in the article as complaining that the attacks have in fact targeted innocent villagers: "We know that the PKK is around here, but they are staying in the mountains, and these bombs are hurting poor villagers."

"Local authorities claim that Turkish has been hitting from the air"

The Guardian article also notes that local authorities in Northern Iraq are claiming that Turkish forces have carried out many air bombing attacks on the Kandil Mountains, and that in related attacks, 8 Iranian soldiers were killed yesterday by pro-PKK forces involved in the clashes.
