With inspectors from the Turkey Atomic Energy Council (TAEK) working since Wednesday determing that there has been no dangerous radioactive leakage from the fire in the cargo hangar at Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport, reports have started to emerge about some of the confirmed losses incurred in the incident.

Up to 14 million dollars, headed for a bank in Europe, is reported to have been in a safe in the cargo, although whether or not the money burned has still not been determined since the safes, which experienced extreme levels of heat in the fire, have yet to be opened by inspectors. The 1.5 tons of gold determined to have been held in the cargo hangar are also thought by inspectors to have melted down during the fire and mixed with metal of the building. Insurance experts are expected in coming days to see whether or not the melted gold can be somehow regained from the smoldering mix. Likewise, 200 thousand dollars worth of refined silver, reportedly on its way to Italy, is thought to have been melted by the heat of the fire.
