Istanbul terror victims buried yesterday
Two sisters killed when an Istanbul IETT bus that was attacked by PKK rioters throwing molotov cocktails tipped over and crushed them were buried yesterday amidst tears and outrage. Sibel Ozkan, 23, and her younger sister Sinem, 18, had been walking on the sidewalk in a neighborhood near Taksim when the bus, whose brakes had gone out after the attack on it, ran backwards down the hill it was on, engulfed in flames, hitting the Ozkan sisters as well as another woman, Zulbiye Karasu. All three died on the spot.
Sibel Ozkan was engaged to be married in a month to her fiancee, Murat Ekiz, whose tears at the funeral yesterday affected everyone around him. Said Ekiz, "It had been 5 months since we were engaged. She was the best person I had ever met in my life. Our wedding had been postponed for a month. Maybe if it hadn't been postponed, this wouldn't have happened." The sisters were buried yesterday in Istanbul, Sibel's coffin draped in the wedding dress she never got to wear.
