FIFA has ordered that Turkey will play their next six games away behind closed doors, a penalty for the violence that broke out between team members after the Switzerland-Turkey World Cup play-off match last November. Players from both teams have also been penalized by the Swiss football governing body; Switzerland's Benjamin Huggel and Turkey's Alpay Ozalan and Emre Belozoglu have been banned for six games. Turkey has been fined 130,000 Euros (£88,000).

"Playing six games 600km away from Turkey means we'll be playing with no fans, I believe we have done what we needed to do, but six games is too much," said Turkey's Football Federation president following the announcement by FIFA.

Turkey will appeal against the decision.
