In addition, the Minister urged citizens not to buy unbranded and unlabelled products. Health Minister, Recep Akdag, stated that the results obtained from further analysis of the samples taken from Turkey to World Health Organisation laboratories in London confirmed what tests in Turkey had revealed: results showing that it is indeed the virus H5N1.

There is, however, no sign at this stage, that the virus can be transmitted from one person to another.

In the explanation he made to journalists early this morning, Akdag said that while they were saddened by the recent deaths of three children, "One thing that we can be pleased about is that according to information given to us, the state of patients currently under care at Van Yuzuncu Yil University Hospital, has not deteriorated." Akdag added that among the reported cases in other towns throughout the country, "none of them have been diagnosed as cases of bird flu".
