Last week's violence and unrest in Hakkari's Semdinli district have now been followed by incidents in Yuksekova district, which have turned the area into a war zone. An estimated 3 thousand people met early yesterday afternoon in front of the Yuksekova DEHAP building, an attempted to march following a press announcement from DEHAP.

When police tried to prevent the march from occuring, violence broke out, and in the ensuing chaos, 3 people were killed, and 16 injured, including 7 police force members.

In addition to death and injury, damage to the center of Yuksekova was considerable, with severe damage to many local businesses. Speaking at a press conference afterwards, Hakkari Governor Erdogan Gurbuz said "The protestors were demonstrating shouting slogans in support of separationist terror groups. They attacked the police with stones, sticks, and gunfire." It was confirmed that PM Erdogan was in contact with Governor Gurbuz to hear the latest details coming out of the region.
