Chicken salad appeared on the menu of an iftar dinner hosted yesterday evening by Speaker of the Turkish Parliament (TBMM), Bulent Arinc. Arinc noted that his guests should eat the chicken meat, which had been checked thoroughly, in "full comfort."

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was in attendance at the iftar, drank water to break his fast, and then saw the chicken salad in front of him on his plate. Laughing, PM Erdogan said to reporters who present at the dinner "This is probably the moment you were waiting for," and proceeded to bite into his chicken. Later, Erdogan took a piece of chicken on his fork and fed it to a photographer who had been taking his picture. In a speech after the meal, Arinc noted that chicken salad was on the menu in order to reassure everyone that there was no reason to panic about poultry meat, and that unnecessary panic was harming producers, consumers, the stock market, and the economy.
