Speculation is widespread that pressure from an upcoming 1 billion dollar investment in Turkey by Dubai Sheik El Maktum is behind Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's newly proclaimed project to construct "new health facilities" and "call in foreign doctors" to Turkey.

Mahmut Akman, the president of the Turk Health Union, has said that sources are confirming that along with the expensive hospital planned by Sheik El Maktum, that the Dubai prince is also looking to import his own doctors, nurses, and health workers into Turkey for employment.

Though uncofirmed by Erdogan as yet, the content of these speculations have led to sharp criticism from Doctor Metin Bakkalci, vice-president of the Turkish Medical Union: "The Prime Minister has said that he will not more money to state hospitals, and that he will bring in doctors from abroad. He should leave his office immediately. The Prime Minister is behaving like a trader who knows nothing. There is no security left in this country."
