Efforts at bringing bird flu in the Manyas region of Balikesir under control continue, with tractors spraying medicine and disinfectant through streets and neighborhoods populated by around 2,000 people. In Kiziksa, also in the Balikesir region, 8,583 poultry animals are reported to have been slaughtered so far. Following reassurances from the government in Ankara that they would be recompensated for their losses, families which had been hiding chickens and turkeys from the authorities have reportedly begun telling health workers to come and slaughter their animals.

A statement from the Balikesir Governor's office said "Money has been paid into the bank accounts of people whose poultry has been slaughtered. So far we have paid 94,224 YTL to farmers." Authorities with the Agriculture Ministry said that they had sent a total of 5,000 boxes of Tamiflu, a drug thought to help with symptoms of the bird flu virus, to the Balikesir Health Center.
